Well we have had the Budget from the Treasurer Wayne Swan and it has no surprises given the amount of detail leaked in the last 24 hours or so.
The 1% company tax cut being dropped is disappointing, the Government will have to work hard to explain to the business community why it was dropped. There is no need to return to surplus. At least as far as the domestic economy is concerned. Sure, to be the first economy in the world to return to surplus after the GFC would be great kudos for the Government, it ‘should’ blunt the Opposition’s claims that the Government couldn’t achieve it, and more importantly, it will contribute to foreign investment confidence.
